Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was taken back to Kot Lakpat prison from Services Hospital on Thursday after his refusal to be shifted to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC). Nawaz, who is currently serving his prison sentence awarded in the Al-Azizia Still Mills corruption case, was shifted to the Kot Lakhpat jail amid tight security. The PML-N activists were also present on the occasion who chanted slogans in favour of Nawaz Sharif.

Nawaz had refused to go to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) Lahore and insisted on returning to the Kot Lakhpat jail on the plea that he was taken to the PIC before being shifted to the Services Hospital and felt it was not appropriate for him to be taken from one place to another.

It may be noted that a medical board had recommended that Nawaz be shifted to a cardiac health facility for specialized heart related treatment. On February 2, the deposed premier was shifted from the Kot Lakhpat prison to Services Hospital. Earlier, Nawaz Sharif met his mother and daughter Maryam at the Services Hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, Nawaz's mother said she could not speak to reporters due to a throat infection. "I pray that Allah may help Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif," she said.

Senior politician Makhdoom Javed Hashmi also wanted to meet Nawaz Sharif but he was not permitted by the authorities. Although, a three member team from the PIC was formed headed by Prof Dr Nadeem Hayat Malik for check up of Nawaz Sharif at the Services Hospital but no check up was carried out. The PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah questioned the government action vis-à-vis treatment of Nawaz Sharif. "Why was Nawaz Sharif sent to a hospital which was not even in line with the prognosis recommended by the panel of doctors?"
